crayon, a new marketing company: Most Important Conferences

  • Matthew Ebel · 2 years ago
I would offer a total non-answer here, but it's the God's honest truth. The must-attend conferences aren't marketing conferences. They're the conferences that relate to your clients. Representing Sweetwater Sound? Make sure you go to NAMM to see what the consumers are getting. Representing Wizards Inc? Book a flight to DragonCon.

    Just my thoughts, tho. =)

    >>I’m betting that if you wanted to you could spend an entire year doing nothing but going from conference to conference.

UnConferences top my list. For me, the Rule of Two Feet is vital - if a speaker's just not my vibe, I can walk to another session or just chill in the halls with other participants. MarCamp, CaseCamp, BarCamp, PodCamp, etc. are all imoprtant venues, because they change the conference model entirely, promoting more conversation and less marketing to conference attendees.

I will continue the trend of not offering any conferences, but I will say that I am VERY interested in following this thread. With limited time and budget, I want to make sure that any conference I attend will be a great one. Generally I don't hear about them until AFTER they happen.

To that end, one of my big life regrets is not going to the CMA Digital Marketing Conference last year. You, Jaffe, Mitch, Weinberger, etc. WHAT WAS I THINKING?!?! You add Shel & Neville to that and it's like the Super Bowl (oops, sorry, the big football game, the name of which may not be uttered without PAYING.) Hopefully '07 will offer a reprise to this conference!

If you are looking for thought leadership Gnomedex gathers a great crowd, and the PME is a must for podcasters.

But, shows are a luxury unless you are using them to set up customer meetings.

Of course, I am a big podcamp fan. I went to SVG which was enlightening, but again, you have to figure out whether the money and travel expenses are worth it on your budget- Podcamp is always a great bet.
